1. Narrative description of the Prop 28 arts education program(s) funded. (2500
character limit).
At Highlands, we currently have one arts & music program, Culinary Arts which
launched in the late 23-24 school year using LCAP Funds. Prop 28 funds will allow
Highlands to build out more robust programs in arts & music based on student interest.
In the process of establishing a new art program, the challenge lies in identifying and
acquiring qualified teachers with appropriate credentials, as well as securing suitable
physical spaces for conducting the classes. Our team attended several job fairs and
posted the positions needed on Edjoin. We are now in the process of interviewing the
applicants. We are also reviewing current teachers who can add a designation to their
credential. Additionally, we invested time into scouting out new appropriate and
accessible spaces to conduct our new art programs. This year has been used as a
planning year, we are expected to launch our art programs early 2024-25. We will be
implementing content creation, videography, photography, baking, welding art, and
music programs in the upcoming school year. We have obtained facilities to use for
these programs in the new fiscal year. We are now in the process of interviewing for
teacher and paraeducator positions with an expected start date of early July.
