About Me

Hi there! I'm Katrina and I am the Director of Instruction and Professional Learning at Highlands Community Charter School.
Being a part of this Highlands family is a distinct honor, and I feel grateful every day I get to serve our students and community. Before moving into administration, I was an English Language Development (ELD) teacher for six years. Three of those years I served as an ELD Lead Teacher here at Highlands, and before that I taught at the English Language Institute at Sacramento State.
I first learned how to teach English while living in Germany. I moved there in 2013 to study for my Master's of Arts in Linguistics, and in order to pay rent I taught Business English throughout Southern Bavaria while simultaneously working as a cleaning staff member at a local hostel.
When I found Highlands, I almost did not believe it was real. I feel like one of the most fortunate people in the world to wake up every day looking forward to my work. In my current position, I am able to coach and train other teachers, and I am also able to foster and cultivate collaboration and professional development across all departments.
If you're not already a part of our Highlands family, but are wondering how you can be, feel free to reach out to me!
