Sunshine's ELD Class

Posts

My name is Sunshine Vang and I am an English Language Development teacher at Highlands Community Charter Technical School! Being a part of the Highlands’ family is such a reward. I am blessed to have such an amazing group of students and peers.  The excitement of coming to work every day is surreal. I am looking forward continue to grow with Highlands to become a better and innovative educator.

Before Highlands, I was a graduate student at the University of the Pacific. I was studying for my Master of Arts in Education and credential in Multiple Subject.  During my studies, I was a student teacher for the Elk Grove Unified School District in the past year. I was fortunate that I had a supportive husband who believed in my dream of becoming a teacher. It took me exactly 12 months from June 2018 to June 2019 to accomplish my graduate and credential program.

After graduating, I went out to look for my first official teaching position in the job force. I was turned down multiple times not for my pedagogy or practical skills, but my appearance as a young Asian educator. I thought of changing careers until I found Highlands. I am proud to say that I love being a teacher at Highlands because of the flexibility and understanding of peers. I love my peers and I love working with each everyone. Especially, I love my students. They made me the teacher I dreamed of being!

Besides my education background, I am a fun and ecstatic person. I enjoy arts and crafts during my free time. One of my favorite books I enjoy reading is Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary. My favorite color is pink because it reminds me of spring blossom.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about my presence in the classroom. I am available from Monday to Friday at St. Anne’s during regular school hours from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. I look forward to a fun school year!

Thank you,
