In California, the Department of Human Assistance (DHA) is a county-level agency that provides various social services to help individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life. DHA is responsible for administering a wide range of programs aimed at providing financial assistance, food, housing, employment services, and other support to low-income individuals, families, and vulnerable populations.

Key Services Provided by DHA in California:
 
1. CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids):
A welfare program that provides cash aid and services to eligible families with children. CalWORKs helps with job search, training, education, and other supportive services to help parents find work.
 
2. CalFresh (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program):
A program that provides monthly food benefits to low-income individuals and families to ensure they have access to nutritious food. CalFresh benefits are provided via an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.
 
3. Medi-Cal:
A state-run program that offers free or low-cost health coverage to low-income individuals, families, seniors, and people with disabilities. DHA helps determine eligibility for Medi-Cal in many counties.
 
4. General Assistance (GA):
Provides short-term cash aid to adults without children who have little or no income and are not eligible for other assistance programs. GA is often a last-resort option for basic needs.
 
5. Homeless Services:
DHA helps provide temporary housing, shelter, and resources to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. This includes connections to shelters, transitional housing, and programs aimed at finding permanent housing.
 
6. Employment Services:
DHA offers job search assistance, career counseling, vocational training, and job placement services to help individuals find employment and achieve financial independence.
 
7. Child Care Assistance:
Financial support for child care services to help low-income parents engage in work or job training programs.
 
8. Foster Care and Adoption Assistance:
Support programs for foster care, adoption, and kinship care services aimed at protecting and caring for children who cannot live with their families.
